Lumia Getting Me Fit

WP_20131026_014

I spend a lot of time talking about the imaging features of this amazing Nokia Lumia 1020 device, but it has other uses.  There are a bevy of apps that I should probably be writing about, but I can do that after my time with the 1020 is over.  I mean, I do have my Lumia 920, running the same operating system.

Photography and videography are one thing, but I find myself frequently on BOTH sides of the camera, so I need to keep an eye on  my fitness.  Obviously, vanity and aesthetics aren’t the only reasons for getting into shape, but they are powerful motivators for this guy.  No matter your reason, the Windows Phone powered Lumia can help buff you up, slim you down or just add to your performance level.

You can see here that I have the phone posing with my running shoes and a nasty post-run t-shirt.  Too bad Lumia can’t do laundry.  Never mind that though.  Like Olivia Newton John said back in the day, “Let’s Get Physical”. (BONUS – I added that music video to the end of this blog)

A PureView of Solstice Canyon

WP_20131023_15_57_03_Pro

My friend Sara and I needed to scout out a location for a photo shoot that we have planned.  It’s not accessible except by hike, so I was glad to only carry along the Nokia Lumia 1020.  The DSLR can stay home until we lug the equipment up there.

In Solstice Canyon there is this mansion that burned in 80’s.  For more info on the trail and park, visit: http://www.nps.gov/samo/planyourvisit/solsticecanyon.htm/index.htm

Fix Stuff With Your Lumia

WP_20131016_22_10_22_Pro

There are several tools pictured here, but you’ll only need one of them to fix the things that I’m going to show you.  If you guess the white Lumia 1020 in the middle of the picture, you’d be correct.

Before we get started, I’d like to point out that while the Lumia 1020 takes great pictures, I’m also impressed with its photogenic qualities in front of the camera.  The Nokia is no diva though and worked well with the hardhat tools that share the spotlight.

OK, let’s dig in and fix some stuff in our lives with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and some apps to help us out.

DalyDose of Fitness: 5 Pushups (w/ Video)

fr635047528514193038_jpg

I teach a Spin/Sculpt class at RPM Fitness Studio on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 am.  We do Spinning until about 10:30 and then we move over to the other studio to work on the sculpting portion.  We usually only get about 20 minutes in there, so I’ve been trying to come up with ways to get workouts done in short amounts of time.  For example, we had tried working up to 100 pushups by doing them in sets of 20, but we don’t have time to run through a circuit 5 times.  I decided to try these pushups out and I debuted them to the class a couple of weeks ago and I’m happy to say that people were in pain the day after.  Fear not, for you too can feel the pain of JD’s “5” Style Pushup.
