ABC Juice for Mission: Camera Ready
Oh how I wish getting fit could be exclusively handled in the gym. If only I could lift and Spin my way back to Warrior JD with just my blood, sweat and tears. Unfortunately, a good deal of fitness happens in the kitchen and while my muscles get their fair share of punishment, my taste buds take the most abuse.
In order to give a boost of micronutrients from time-to-time one can gulp down a juice. Today, I did just that and I am am going to share the experience with you.
Keep on reading to see what the ABC Juice and how you can make it for yourself….
Lumia Gets REAL…estate
I have to tell you that the Nokia Lumia 1020 puts in work. I’ve used it on paid video jobs and paid event photography jobs. Now, it just got REAL. My friend asked me to do a shoot of his new real estate listing. I brought along my trusty DSLR because “size matters”, when people are paying for pictures.
I took about half of the photos with the DSLR and half with the Lumia 1020. The Lumia had a wider angle, which is great for capturing smaller rooms where I couldn’t back up any further to frame it properly with the DSLR. That wider view was also great for capturing the totality of the yard spaces.
I’m only going to post pictures taken with the Lumia in this posting. If you are interested in the house, please check out the listing here: 10521 Northvale Rd – Represented by Cory Holtzman.
My PureView of the Hollywood Sign Hike
Last week, I was in Portland and the change of scenery was great, but you gotta come home, right? My friend John reminded me that we often forget how interesting the place we live can be. With that being said, I decided to share one of my favorite hikes in Los Angeles.
In my pursuit of entertainment fame and fortune…or just the ability to pay my bills by doing what I love…I sometimes need perspective. It’s the kind of perspective that tells you that your awesome even when you can’t get a meeting or a referral or an audition. Yes, perspective feeds the ego and shuts out negative talk because OBVIOUSLY “they” are the one’s missing out.
OK, enough of that (for now). Let’s get to the hike. Every picture was taken with the Nokia Lumia 1020. Most were taken with the Nokia Camera app, but some were taken with Fhotolens and 4Blend HDR apps. Finally there are some panorama shots taken with the Nokia Panorama app. I’d like to say that this was a sponsored piece. Seriously, Microsoft, Nokia, etc…I’d LOVE to say that this is a sponsored piece. How ‘bout it?
Yes, there’s the hike. The picture above is on Beachwood Drive which takes you to the trailhead. Much like going to the movies or watching TV, the sign reminds you of your destination for the entire journey. Keep reading past the break to experience the journey with me.
San Diego Christmas in PureView
If this was a movie, an appropriate line of dialog might be: “We’re not in Michigan anymore”. With the weather and the snow, it was conceivable to get frostbite and snow at the same time.

Let me show you the story in 1020 PureView….
Does Size Matter– In Pro Photography?
I have owned a Lumia 920 for over a year and been using the Lumia 1020 for a couple of months. They both take excellent still photographs and amazing video and in many scenarios, I can see using these devices on professional jobs.
Whereas the image quality is up to par, I think that paying clients have a “gear bias”. Meaning, that they expect big gear and lots of it to justify that they are paying for the shoot. Is the bias real or am I just imaging it?
Let’s delve in and let it be known that I have big equipment and I know how to use big equipment. In no way do I have lens envy. Now that’s out of the way, let’s get going.
Lumia 1020 Photo Roundup
It’s been a while since I’ve done a entry that’s just about photography on the Lumia 1020. It’s not that I’ve stopped taking photos, but I’ve settled into a posting them in a places with a built in photographic community. You can regularly find my pictures on my Flickr account and my Phonetogaphs Blog and in the Fhotoroom community.
The picture above is one of my favorites from this device. I love the contrasts of color and texture.
OK, let’s dive into some more…
My 1020 Vision Needs to REFOCUS
It’s a great thing to have a cutting edge photography technology in your pocket. The creative freedom of having a camera with you everywhere is amazing and it has kind of been my focus while testing out this Nokia Lumia 1020 device. This Windows Phone really delivers in imaging.
Earlier today Nokia released a new app called Refocus. So I stepped away from usual creative thinking and have started pondering how I might use it to expand the scope of my photographs. Please note that the Refocus app is for PureView Nokia Lumia devices with the Amber update.
Today, I just went out to the sundeck and fired up the app to see what it could do. All of the images above are from one Refocus shot. Let’s check it out.
Home Turf
My mission: To put my #NoExcuses manta to work. Last week, I wrote some mini-short scripts and now I wanted to shoot them. I was having trouble scheduling with anybody to help me, so I picked one that I thought that I could shoot on my own and I just decided to do it today.
It took a good portion of my afternoon, but I like how it turned out. I was able to show off the Nokia Lumia 1020’s HD capability. I was also able to (hopefully) show a bit of the funny that exists in my head. Most of all, I just got something done and that is so important in creating the habit of creating.
OK, let’s jump into it. I’ll give a few tips along the way…
A PureView of the Pacific Design Center
I took a little walk and thought that I’d share the Pacific Design Center exterior with you. Enjoy the campus of modern buildings and fountain in a garden style setting. Obviously, I used the Nokia Lumia 1020 to capture it all. It’s all handheld and I wasn’t being particularly careful so the Optical Image Stabilizer was working hard. Also, you can see that the microphone works really well…almost too well for standard host-style speaking, because it picks up everything.

1020 Test – A PureView Mini Tour of Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial Park
This is my last video test of the Nokia Lumia 1020 before I start doing scripted videos. You will see that the phone did a good job with both audio and video.
This little park is at the bottom of my hill. I walk through it just about every day as anyone who follows me on Foursquare will testify to.
